Which version of PayPal should I use?

PayPal is one of the largest payment processors in the world and offers many different payment solutions. BigCommerce has integrated with a few of these options to ensure there is one that fits your business.  Offering PayPal will make your store accessible to different types of shoppers, which is critical to your store's conversion rate.

We've integrated with the following PayPal products:

• PayPal powered by Braintree (recommended for US, UK, and FR merchants)
• PayPal (PayPal Commerce Platform) (recommended for merchants in all other regions)
• PayPal Payments Pro (Payflow Edition)
• PayPal Payflow Pro

PayPal Powered by Braintree

If you are based in the United States, the United Kingdom, or France, we recommend PayPal powered by Braintree. This integration combines credit card processing with PayPal commerce functionality in an interface that lets your customers pay with their PayPal account without ever leaving your storefront.

In addition to processing credit cards on your checkout page, PayPal powered by Braintree offers more advanced functionality than other PayPal integrations, such as:

• 3D Secure
• Smart Buttons for additional payment methods like PayPal Pay Later and Venmo
• stored PayPal accounts and credit cards
• multiple transactional currencies (multicurrency)
• Visa Click to Pay
• Google Pay

BigCommerce also offers special pre-negotiated rates to qualified merchants.

PayPal (PayPal Commerce Platform)

With a single, unified payments integration, you can customize your checkout experience to accept payments in over 100 currencies, from 325 million active customers across 200 markets. Check all features below:

Other PayPal Gateways

The following PayPal gateways are available only on our Legacy Checkout, which may not be available in your store's control panel.

PayPal Payments Pro (Payflow Edition) allows merchants to keep customers on their storefront for credit card transactions and allows customers to purchase without needing a PayPal account. PayPal Payments Pro (Payflow Edition) is available to merchants based in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. It offers a 2.89% + $0.49 rate per US transaction, with a $30 monthly fee. This option includes PayPal Commerce functionality.

PayPal Payflow Pro allows merchants to keep customers on their storefront for credit card transactions and allows customers to purchase without needing a PayPal account. PayPal Payflow Pro is available to merchants based in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. PayPal Payflow Pro offers a $0.10 per transaction rate with a $25 monthly fee, and a $99 setup fee. This option does not include PayPal Commerce functionality.
