Mercado Pago is a payment platform with one of the largest user bases in Latin America. Using Mercado Pago, your shoppers can place orders using local credit cards, bank transfers, cash vouchers, and more across seven countries.

This chapter covers the process of enabling Mercado Pago APMs in your store and provides a list of payment methods available in our Mercado Pago integration. To learn more about the features, requirements, and setup for the Mercado Pago payment gateway, see Connecting with Mercado Pago.

 

Enabling Mercado Pago Payment Methods

Once you’ve created a Mercado Pago merchant account in one of the supported countries, all of the country’s payment methods are automatically enabled in your account. Shoppers meeting the requirements will see the option to pay using a credit/debit card or via one of the hosted payment methods at checkout.

If the shopper proceeds with a hosted payment, they will be prompted to select from the APMs that are available in their region and complete their transaction.

Shoppers can choose from the available payment methods in their region.

If the shopper has a Mercado Pago account, they can select the Mercado Pago option at the top of the payments page and scan a QR code to pay from within the app.

Orders placed with Mercado Pago’s credit/debit card payment methods appear in your control panel as Credit Card in the Payment Method field, while hosted payment methods will appear as Hosted by Mercado Pago.

Most Mercado Pago orders share the same fulfillment process as typical orders. If a shopper uses a cash payment APM like Boleto Bancário or OXXO, their order will appear in your control panel with an Awaiting Payment status until the shopper pays their balance. Once paid, the status will automatically update to Awaiting Fulfillment, indicating that the order is ready to be processed.

 

Requirements and Limitations

  • Shopper Requirements
    • Shoppers must select the currency associated with the payment method.
  • Limitations
    • Manual capture is supported with Mercado Pago’s credit/debit card payment methods, but not with the hosted payment methods.
 

Available Payment Methods

The tables below contain all of the payment methods supported by Mercado Pago, organized by supported country and currency. Payment via Mercado Pago’s app is supported by default in all Mercado Pago countries.

FAQ

Can I disable a payment method in a given country?

By default, all of a country’s payment methods are enabled when you create a Mercado Pago merchant account. To request disablement of a specific payment method, click Support in your merchant account and contact Mercado Pago Support.

Why are some payment methods not visible to shoppers using the correct transaction currency?

Certain payment methods have a maximum order value that they support. When a shopper’s order exceeds that value, the payment method is hidden at checkout.

How can I determine which payment method was used to place an order?

In your Mercado Pago merchant account, you can view the payment method associated with a transaction from the Activities area. In your BigCommerce control panel, locate the order’s Transaction ID value in order to identify the corresponding transaction in Mercado Pago.
