KakaoPay is one of the most popular and secure digital wallets in Korea, with over 10 million shoppers and 93% of mobile users utilizing it daily. KakaoPay offers both one-time purchases and recurring payments and allows users to shop both in-store and online, transfer funds, pay bills, bank online, manage investments, and more.

 

How It Works

Once connected, shoppers who meet the requirements will see KakaoPay as an available payment method at checkout.

After proceeding with the order, shoppers making a one-time purchase will be redirected to the KakaoPay payment page to scan a QR code using the KakaoPay app and confirm the payment using biometric verification or a 6-digit PIN.

Shoppers choosing to sign up for recurring payments are redirected to KakaoPay where they are prompted to log in using their KakaoPay credentials or a QR code. A notification is sent to the shopper in the KakaoTalk messaging app, where they must log in using the Login button in the notification to confirm the payment.

After the order has been placed, it will appear in your control panel as kakaopay (via gateway) in the Payment Method field. Orders placed with KakaoPay share the same fulfillment process as typical orders.

Requirements and Limitations

  • Your store must meet the following criteria:
  • Shopper Requirements
    • Shoppers must use an address in Korea at checkout.
    • Shoppers must select KRW as their transaction currency.
  • Limitations
    • Manual capture is not supported.

FAQ

Can I change the time-out limit of the KakaoPay payment page shoppers are redirected to?

Yes. When a shopper is redirected to the KakaoPay payment page, it is valid for 30 minutes by default. You can change the link expiry time limit by contacting the Adyen support team from within your Adyen Customer Area.
