The Carts Report shows you statistics on all carts, including live, converted, and abandoned carts. A cart is considered "abandoned" when a customer adds items to their cart and the cart has not been updated for more than one hour. It is "recovered" when the customer returns and converts their cart into an order by checking out. This report includes statistics on all carts from all shoppers, including guests.

If a cart is abandoned by customers who were logged in or provided their contact information during the checkout process, those customers can be sent an email inviting them to complete checkout. This feature is called the Abandoned Cart Saver.

The Carts Report can be viewed under AnaylticsCarts

Graphs

Abandon rate

This graph shows the percentage of the carts that were abandoned out of the total carts. In the chart, carts are divided into cohorts based on when they were initially created. Recent cohorts are likely to have a higher abandon rate as there has not been as much time to recover the cart.

When were your carts converted into orders

The cohorts represent the number of days between when the cart was purchased and the cart was first created. The percentages are the number of carts allocated to that cohort out of all the converted carts. Note that this graph is only available to Ecommerce Insights subscribers.

Carts by status

This chart shows all the carts by statuses that were created over the selected time period.

A cart is created when a shopper adds an item to their cart. A cart is updated when a new item is added, an existing item is removed, or an existing item’s quantity is changed.

  • Abandoned carts — The cart has not been converted into an order and has not been updated for more than 1 hour.
  • Converted carts that were never abandoned — The cart was converted into an order before it reached abandoned status (see above).
  • Recovered carts — Items were added to the cart, the cart reached abandoned status (see above), then the cart was converted into an order.
  • Live carts — Items have been added to the cart, it has not been converted to an order, and was updated less than 1 hour ago.

Recovered carts

This chart shows carts that were abandoned at some point and later converted into orders.

Recovered carts revenue

This is the total revenue of product line items from all the recovered carts and includes product-level discounts. It excludes shipping, taxes, and order-level discounts.

Carts Table

This area provides detailed information on individual carts, such as:

  • the cart's current status
  • the cart's total value
  • the cart's contents (line items)
  • the customer information associated with the cart (if available)
  • the channel the cart came from
  • when a cart was abandoned

The list can be filtered by status (abandoned, converted on initial visit, recovered, live, or all) and customer type (identified, anonymous, or all).

Pro Tip! By filtering by identified customers, you can see carts with which you have associated customer information. You can use this to reach out to these shoppers and encourage them to complete their purchase or find out what prevented them from checking out. This can be particularly helpful for B2B merchants.

FAQ

Why am I seeing more abandoned carts associated with a product than the number of visits?

This can be caused by customers with script- or ad-blockers. When this happens, an abandoned cart is logged, but a visit to the product page is not.
