Pinterest is a site where users create a collection of links to sites, images, or videos that relate to a common idea or theme. It can be a useful platform to promote products since Pinterest can be like a visual wishlist.
Rich Pins are supported by all Stencil themes. Note that if your store is using a legacy Blueprint theme that has been heavily customized or is missing the %%GLOBAL_AdditionalMetaTags%% variable from certain themes files, this feature may not work.
What Are Rich Pins?
Rich Pins are just like regular pins, but they include real-time information about your product, including:
- Product price
- Stock level
- Product description
Requirements
- Your store must be launched and not in maintenance mode.
- Before you are able to tag your products in a Pin, you will need to claim your website.
- A merchant must be verified through the Verified Merchant Program for price and availability information to appear on Rich Pins.
Enabling and Disabling
Rich Pins are automatically enabled on your store. You can check the setting under Settings › General, under the Share tab. Click More options, and you will see Pinterest Rich Pins.
To enable or disable Rich Pins, click the ON/OFF toggle switch to your desired setting.
Claiming Your Store with Pinterest
Confirming ownership of your site is required prior to pinning products. Your Pinterest profile picture will appear alongside pins and other Pinterest users will have the option to follow you. It also gives you access to Pinterest Analytics, which tracks and reports visitor interactions with your Pins.
To claim your website, log into your Pinterest account. Click the dropdown arrow in the top right, then select Settings.
Click on Claimed accounts on the left menu. Under the Websites section of the page, click Claim.
Move your cursor over the box under the Add HTML tag option, and click to copy the meta tag. Leave this tab open (you'll come back later to confirm) and open your BigCommerce control panel in a new tab.
In BigCommerce, go to Settings › Data solutions and click on Site Verification Tags.
Paste the code that you copied earlier into the HTML verification tag box. If you have other code present in the box, paste the code to a separate line at the bottom.
Click Save.
Return to the tab with your Pinterest profile and click Continue. Enter your store URL in the box, then click Verify. Pinterest will confirm it has verified your site.
If you receive the message "API Method not found." or "Looks like we had trouble connecting to your website. Please try again later.", try contacting Pinterest support.
