How do I setup email with Microsoft Outlook 2007?

Difficulty Level: Getting Started     Tools Needed: Email Client, BigCommerce Control Panel

 

You can configure your BigCommerce E-mail within Microsoft Outlook 2007 with either of the two types:

POP Account Settings

  1. Open up Outlook 2007
  2. Click on Tools menu and select Account Settings...
  3. In the new popup, click on the Email tab and then the New... button:

  4. After you have pressed New... you should then see a popup window like the one below.
    • Enter your Names as you will want it to appear whn you send people email
    • Enter your ful BigCommerce Email Address
    • Enter the email password that you created when making the account(You can see this information by going to >Tools >Email Accounts >Account Details Link).

  5. Click on the Manually configure server settings or additional server types checkbox and press Next.

  6. After that you will then be presented with of what email server to setup. Please select the Internet E-mail option and then press Next.

  7. Next will be the Internet E-mail Settings page. This is the page where you will actually be able to setup your email account. It will use the information from your BigCommerce store where you created your email account(s). You can see this information by going to Tools > Email Accounts > Action> Account Details Link. It will popup in a window like the following:

    • Your Name: This will be the name in the From: field when sending an email.
    • E-mail Address: This is your actual email address. Your email address will be your Big Commerce email account name, followed by an '@' symbol and then your domain name. So if your account name is info and your domain is bigcommerce.us, then your email address would be info@bigcommerce.us.
    • Account Type: This is the type of email account that you will be using. Please select POP3 as the account type.
    • Incoming mail server: The Incoming mail server will be serverXXX.bigcommerce.com (eg: server1200.bigcommerce.com using the above example).
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): The Outgoing mail server (SMTP) will be serverXXX.bigcommerce.com (eg: server1200.bigcommerce.com using the above example).
    • Username: The Username will be your full email address (eg:info@bigcommerce.us.).
    • Password: This field is optional and it is the same password that you used when creating your Big Commerce email account. If you click on Remember password then you will be able to enter in your password, else if you do not then you will be asked for it whenever you open up Outlook.
    • Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA): Do NOT tick the Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) as Big Commerce is not configured to support this.

  9. Click on button labeled 'More Settings...'
    • Click  on the Outgoing Server tab.
    • Tick the box 'Use same settings as my incoming server'.

  10. Click on the 'Advanced' tab
    • Incoming Server Port: 995
    • Sever requires SSL: Yes
    • Outgoing Server Port: 465
    • Encryption Type: SSL
    • Leave a copy of messages on the server: Yes(optional)
    • Click Ok

    Storage Space

    Please be advised that email storage will be included as part of your allocated space determined by the size of your BigCommerce plan. It is recommended that you download all email to your computer(s) and then remove the email from the server to  reduce the disk space usage on your account. Click here for instructions on how to setup email to download the email entirely.

  11. You will then be taken back to the previous screen, where you should click on Next.

  13. That is all that you need to do to configure your BigCommerce email address using POP3 within Outlook 2007! Now you can click on Send/Recieve to retreive any mail on the server, or send out new messages.

IMAP Account Settings

  1. Open up Outlook 2007
  2. Click on Tools menu and select Account Settings...
  3. In the new popup, click on the Email tab and then the New... button:

  12. That is all that you need to do to configure your BigCommerce email address using IMAP within Outlook 2007! Now you can click on Send/Recieve to retreive any mail on the server, or send out new messages.

  13. Then Outlook will Sync up with the main Inbox folder, and you can start using Outlook foryour email.
