Once you've created a user account and logged into it, you can manage it from within the control panel.
Profile Information
You can edit your user profile to add your name and set your preferred language in the control panel.
Go to My Profile › Profile Information. The name entered here is associated with your user profile and is used on email communications from BigCommerce. After completing these fields for the first time, First name and Last name are required for any changes to your profile.
Select your Preferred language from the dropdown. See the list of supported languages and their locale codes below:
- English — en-US
- Spanish (Spain) — es-ES
- Spanish (Latin America) — es-419
- French — fr-FR
- Italian — it-IT
- Chinese — zh
- German — de-DE
- Dutch — nl-NL
- Portuguese — pt-BR
- Swedish — sv
- Korean — ko-KR
- Danish — da-DK
- Norwegian — no-NO
- Polish — pl-PL
- Japanese — ja-JP
When you're done, click Save. The control panel will update to display in your updated preferred language.
Email Address
Follow the steps below to change the email address associated with your user account.
1. Go to My Profile › Email Address.
2. Enter the new email address that you'd like to associate with your user account, and verify your password.
3. When you're done, click Save.
Password
Follow the steps below to change your password while you're logged into the control panel.
1. Go to My Profile › Password.
2. Enter your current password, then enter what you'd like to change it to, and confirm. Your new password will need to meet the following requirements:
- At least 12 characters
- One or more uppercase letters
- One or more punctuation marks or symbols
- One or more lowercase letters
- One or more numbers
3. When you're done, click Save. Click Change password on the popup. You will be logged out of the control panel and your password will be changed.
Two-Factor Authentication
All users have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled, which adds an additional layer of security to your account.
Go to My Profile › Two-Factor Authentication to view and make changes to your account's security features.
By default, email verification is enabled for all users. This basic security feature requires you to enter a code while logging in. The code is emailed whenever you log in from a new device for the first time, and you will need to re-verify a device once every 30 days. Clearing cookies in your browser or using a private browsing window will trigger the verification process again.
We recommend an authenticator app for advanced security, which generates time-based one-time use pass codes (TOTP) on your mobile device. This means even if a malicious actor has access to your email and password, it will be difficult for them to access your store's control panel. If you don't already have an app, we recommend using Twilio Authy, but you may use any authenticator app.

How do I log out of the control panel?
On the control panel navigation, click on My Profile, then click Log Out.
Why am I getting an "Email address has not been updated" message?
If you receive an error when attempting to update your user profile email address, you are either logged in as the Store Owner user or the email address is already in use by another user account.
To change the store owner's user email address, create a new user account with the desired email address and assign the Store Owner user role to the new account.
My control panel is showing the wrong language. How do I change it?
Go to My Profile › Profile Information. Select your preferred language from the drop-down list located in the Language section, then click Save. Below are the navigation directions in our supported languages:
