When you’re ready to send an order to a customer, you’ll use a shipping label. A shipping label works like a stamp in that it shows that you’ve paid the proper amount of postage, but it also provides the relevant information necessary for the carrier to perform the delivery, like the address of the sender, the address of the recipient, the weight and dimensions of the package, and the requested service. Some of this information is encoded into machine-readable barcodes.
All of our label printing solutions are designed to help streamline your workflow by automating the label creation process. They also allow you to purchase postage at discounted rates versus what you would normally pay by going to the carrier’s website, a physical retail store, or the post office.
BigCommerce supports third-party apps that print labels, like ShipStation and Easyship. Check out the Shipping Fulfillment section of our App Marketplace for additional integrations.
If you ship a large number of orders on a regular basis, we recommend using an automated solution like the ones listed above. However, if you have your own label/postage printing solution, you can still fulfill orders manually, if you wish. See Basic Shipping | Shipments for how to use our built-in basic fulfillment functionality.
