Multibanco is Portugal’s most popular payment method. With Multibanco, your shoppers can place orders online and pay for them later with cash at one of more than 13,000 participating ATMs across Portugal.
Multibanco provides a secure alternative to online payment, as no banking information is required at checkout. Since transactions are paid in cash, there is no risk of chargebacks.
How It Works
Once you’ve connected Multibanco with Checkout.com, shoppers meeting the requirements will see it as an available payment option at checkout.
Upon proceeding with the order, the shopper will be redirected to the Multibanco payment page, where they can confirm the amount owed and print their payment voucher.
After the order is placed, it will appear in your control panel as Multibanco (via Checkout.com) in the Payment Method field, with a status of Awaiting Payment.
When the shopper has taken their voucher to a participating ATM and paid the balance, the order status will automatically update to Awaiting Fulfillment, indicating that funds have been captured and the order can be fulfilled.
If the shopper’s payment voucher expires, the order status will automatically update to Declined instead to indicate that you should not fulfill the order.
