Requirements
Before using the Windcave integration, merchants need to meet the requirements below:
- You have a Windcave REST account.
- You have a merchant Id with a supported acquirer.
- Your store uses one of the Supported Countries/Currencies (see Common Questions below).
- Manage Payments and Manage Settings user permissions must be enabled.

Setup
Navigate to Settings › Payments › Online Payment Methods and click Set up next to Windcave.
You will be automatically taken to the Windcave Settings tab. Enter the API username and key provided by the Windcave activations team:
- API username — Windcave Rest API username (provided at time of account setup with Windcave)
- API key — Windcave Rest API key (provided at time of account setup with Windcave)
You have two options for setting up Windcave on your checkout: the non-hosted Credit Card integration that allows customers to remain on your store during checkout and a hosted integration that supports 3D Secure.
Credit Card
The Credit Card integration allows shoppers to enter their credit card details and complete their transaction on your store's checkout page. Configure this payment option using the following settings:
- Enable/Disable — display or hide the payment option in your store.
- Display name — the name of the payment option given at checkout; “Credit Card” is recommended.
- Transaction Type — available options are Authorize & Capture or Authorize Only. The Authorize Only option allows merchants the ability to capture the funds manually. See Manually Capturing Transactions (Authorize Only) to learn more.

Windcave
The Windcave integration is a hosted payment method that redirects shoppers to Windcave's payment page to complete their transaction. Configure this payment option using the following settings:
- Enable/Disable — display or hide the payment in your store.
- Display name — the name of the payment option given at checkout; “Windcave” is recommended.
- Transaction Type — available options are Authorize & Capture or Authorize Only. The Authorize Only option allows merchants the ability to capture the funds manually. See Manually Capturing Transactions (Authorize Only) to learn more.
Windcave hosted integration settings
Checkout experience for Windcave hosted payments
Test mode configures the integration to connect to the Windcave User Acceptance Testing (UAT) server, allowing merchants to test their configuration without processing live payments.
Note: Separate credentials are required to connect to the UAT server. If you would like to perform UAT testing, please contact your account manager to request UAT credentials.

What currencies and countries does the payment gateway support?
The Windcave integration supports the below countries and currencies:
- Countries: Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Singapore, and Hong Kong
- Currencies: AED, AUD, CAD, CHF, CNY, EUR, FJD, GBP, HKD, HRK, IDR, ISK, JPY, KRW, MYR, NOK, NZD, PGK, PHP, PLN, RUB, SEK, SGD, THB, TWD, USD, VUV, WST, XPF, ZAR
Please note available currencies may vary depending acquirer.
What items are restricted for merchants to sell?
Restricted or Prohibited goods are determined by the merchant’s acquirer. Please get in contact with the Windcave Sales team if you are not sure if you are eligible for a merchant account.
Transactions
After I create an account, what is the waiting period before I can process transactions?
Onboarding times vary depending on the merchant’s acquirer is settling your transactions however generally this process can take between 3-5 business days.
How long until the funds are transferred to my bank?
Settlement is typically the next business day after the transaction (T+1), but this may vary depending on the merchant’s acquirer and their configuration.
Will I or my customers receive an additional email or invoice from the payment gateway?
By default, no additional email is sent to customers from the payment gateway. However, this is a feature that can be enabled.
Refunds
How soon after a transaction can I perform a refund?
Merchants can process a refund immediately after the customer has successfully processed their payment.
Is there an amount of time after which I cannot perform a refund?
Merchants can perform refunds at any time pending the card used by the customer remains valid.
Are there any fees for chargebacks/refunds?
Fees may vary depending on the merchant’s acquirer. To discuss further, please contact the Windcave Sales team.
Additional Features
Are there any fraud filtering options available?
Yes, merchants have access to Windcave’s Risk Management engine, Address Verification System (AVS), and CVC result checking.

Does Windcave support 3D Secure (3DS)?
Yes, 3DS is enabled automatically in the hosted Windcave integration only. The Credit Card integration does not support 3D Secure.

Why did my shopper receive an error when trying to pay?
If the error response received is not clear merchants should contact the Windcave Support team to request further information.
How are payment disputes handled?
Merchants encountering disputes with their payments should contact their merchant acquirer for further assistance.
Are there any additional steps to take when switching from Legacy Checkout to Optimized One-Page Checkout with Windcave?
If you have Windcave connected and your store is currently on Legacy Checkout, you will need new Windcave API credentials before switching to Optimized One-Page Checkout. Contact the Windcave Support team for assistance with updating your API credentials.
