Wish Lists

Understanding your customers is an essential part of building a loyal customer base. A wish list is a window into your customer's way of thinking and aspirations. By viewing them and compiling the data, you'll be able to see what they're interested in, making your marketing efforts more efficient.

Enabling/Disabling Wish Lists

You can enable or disable wish lists from the control panel. By default, wish lists are enabled on your storefront.

Creating Storefront Wish Lists

To create wish lists, your customers must first log in to their account. Customers who are not logged in will still see the Add to Wish List button, but they will be taken to the Sign In or Create an Account page if they attempt to add an item to a wish list.

Once signed in, customers can follow these steps to create a new wish list from their account area. There is no limit to the number of wish lists a customer can create.

There are multiple ways to create wish lists. Wish lists can also be created from the product page when a customer is logged in, via the Add to Wish List button.

Click Account. Generally this link is located in the top menu of the store, but its exact location varies from theme to theme.

Adding Products to Wish Lists

To add products to their wish lists, customers start by navigating to any product page. Products cannot be added to wish lists from category or quickview pages.

Click the Add to Wish List button. For some themes, this button has a heart icon, while others have text.

Click Add to My Wish List to add the product to your default wish list. If the customer already has wish lists set up, select the wish list you would like to use. Customers will be taken to their wish list page in the My Account area.

Store performance issues with large wish lists: Shoppers may experience performance issues when attempting to use wish lists larger than 600 products, leading to a less than optimal shopping experience. We recommend letting your shoppers know they can create multiple wish lists and encouraging them to do so. Suggestions can include holiday-specific lists, project lists, or lists for individuals, rather than having a single large wish list on a customer account.

Managing Wish Lists

To manage multiple wish lists as a customer, begin by going to My Account, then click Wish Lists. All of the wish lists you have created will be shown on the page.

FAQ

Do wish lists expire? How long do products stay in the wish list?

Wish lists never expire. A product will stay included in a wish list as long as that product is visible in the store.

Can I notify my customers when an out of stock product in their wish list is back in stock?

Yes. The App Marketplace contains several apps that will automatically send alerts to your customers about out of stock products that are now available for purchase.

As these apps require customers to opt in manually for in-stock notifications, they are not dependent on the products being added to a wish list.

Do you support a wish list app with advanced features, such as viewing customer wish list without logging in and allowing visitors to create a list?

While we do not support advanced features like guest wishlists natively, the app Wishlist Plus allows customers who are not logged in to access their wish list from multiple devices, allows you to customize the wish list UI and buttons, and add product variants. Merchants can also view metrics and reports on wish list activity.
