Which Theme Platform Do I Have?

Your BigCommerce store will be using one of two theme platforms, which determine what designs and design-related features are available for your store. Our current theme platform, Stencil, comes with all newly created stores. Stores created before November 2016 were outfitted with Blueprint, a legacy theme engine that is being phased out. Blueprint themes are no longer supported or updated and we recommend upgrading your store to a Stencil theme. To learn more about the differences between Stencil and Blueprint, see The Stencil Theme Platform.

You can use this article to determine which theme platform your store is currently using. Knowing this will help you to determine whether or not certain features, apps, or design customizations are available for your current theme, or if you will need to use another theme or theme platform.

Which Theme Platform am I Using?

A quick way to tell what theme platform you currently have applied to your storefront is to go to the Storefront menu in the control panel.

Stencil

The Script Manager will be displayed as a Storefront menu option if your store is using a Stencil theme.

Blueprint

If the Storefront menu shows additional settings such as Mobile Theme Settings, Template Files, and Header, you are using a Blueprint theme.

Look different? Multi-Storefront stores use the Stencil platform by default. Script Manager is found by editing the storefront's settings in Channel Manager.

Third-Party Themes

If you purchased your theme from a partner or from a third-party distribution, such as Theme Forest, the theme is a Stencil theme. The theme's developer is responsible for support for third-party themes. Due to our Design Policy, our technical support is unable to edit code or make design changes, but can offer general advice and help to troubleshoot an issue.
