A sitemap is a list of pages included on your website. It provides a way to conveniently provide a snapshot of your site to search engines and other services. To have your site indexed and verified by a search engine, it is necessary to submit your sitemap. In general, XML sitemaps are the preferred format of most search engines or visual sitemapping tools. On BigCommerce, you have access to your store's XML sitemap.

Submitting a Sitemap

Search Engines will often prompt for a sitemap during the verification process. Usually, they will ask for a link to the XML.

Do I have to update the links in the sitemap?

  • Links are updated in the sitemap automatically. When search engines crawl your site, they will find the updated links.

When should I re-submit my sitemap?

  • Whenever you change your domain name or you switched to Sitewide HTTPS, it is advised to submit the sitemap again.
