Claiming Your Site in Google Merchant Center

You'll need to verify and claim your store's website URL with Google in order for your products to be eligible to appear on Google Shopping.

Claiming your site associates your verified website URL with your Google Merchant Center account. In order to claim a website in Google Merchant Center, you'll need to first verify your site with Google.

1. Sign into your Merchant Center account and go to Business InformationWebsite and click Claim your website.

2. Complete any required fields under About your business. Once finished, your Website URL should show both Verified and Claimed.

Exporting Your Products for Google AdWords

Google AdWords is a pay-per-click website advertising service that includes your paid listing on Google search results. An effective AdWords campaign can help you to attract visitors, increase sales, and improve your brand awareness.

BigCommerce allows you to generate and export your products for use as Google AdWords ads. Dynamic placeholders may be used to show specific data for individual products.

This article covers exporting your ads from your BigCommerce store. For assistance importing into your Google AdWords campaign, see Google's documentation.

Generating Ads

1. Go to MarketingGoogle AdWords.

2. Select which categories to Create Ads For, or select All Categories.

3. Fill in all of the following fields. See Google's support documentation on field length limits.

  • Ad Headline — This the top line and title of your ad. In most instances, you'll want to use a {PRODNAME} placeholder to make the headline specific.
  • Description Line 1 — This is first description line of text, displayed immediately following the title.
  • Description Line 2 — This is the second description line of text, displayed immediately following the first.
  • Display URL — This is the URL shown in the ad result.
  • Final URL — The URL on your store a user is redirected to when clicking this ad. In most instances, you'll want to leave this as the {PRODLINK} placeholder.
  • Ad Type — Google Search, Search Partners, Search, Select, Display, Search Network only - Mobile app installs, Display Network only - Mobile app installs, Shopping. See Import a CSV file in AdWords Editor - CSV file columns for more information.
  • Campaign — The name of the campaign these ads apply to. It can be new or existing.
  • Ad Group — The name of ad group these ads apply to. It can be new or existing.

All fields are required to export your ads.

4. Click Export to save the CSV file to your computer.

 
 

Google AdWords Conversion Tracking

Google AdWords is an advertising service for merchants wanting to display ads on Google search results and its advertising network. An effective campaign can help you to attract visitors, increase sales, and improve your brand awareness. This article covers how to generate the conversion tracking code and how to add the code to your store. For more information about Google AdWords, see Google's documentation.

 

Note: Google recently introduced a new web tagging library called Global Site Tag (gtag.js) and a new AdWords dashboard. Global Site Tag and the new AdWords dashboard are still in beta. There is no rush to adopt this new library and you can continue to use your existing tracking setup. The code in this article is using Google's Universal Analytics library (analytics.js).

Generating the Conversion Tracking Code

1. Log in to your Google AdWords account. If you do not already have an AdWords account, you'll need to create one.

2. Click the wrench icon, then click Return to previous AdWords. The following steps will not work in the beta dashboard.

3. Go to ToolsConversions, and click + Conversion.

4. Select Website as the source of the conversion.

5. Enter a Name for your conversion, then click Value.

6. Select The value of this conversion action may vary (for instance, by purchase price). For If no value is assigned, what should the default value be? change the currency to match your store and enter a numercial value. In our example, we entered 0.

7. Click Category and select Purchase/Sale as the conversion action category.

8. Click Done, then Save and continue.

9. Copy the generated code tag. You can also Save or Email the tag and instructions for later reference. In the next section, we'll modify this code with the transaction-specific values Google needs to measure conversion activity.

Adding the Code to Your Store

1. In your BigCommerce control panel, click Advanced SettingsAffiliate Conversion Tracking.

2. Paste the conversion code tag from the previous section in the Conversion Tracking Code box. You can drag the bottom corner of the box to make it bigger, so it's easier to edit the code.

3. Replace the numerical value after var google_conversion_value = and ?value= to %%ORDER_AMOUNT%%.

4. Add the following lines above var google_conversion_value = %%ORDER_AMOUNT%%;:

{ var google_conversion_order_id = "%%ORDER_ID%%"; }

5. Add &oid=%%ORDER_ID%% immediately following &guid=ON in the tag's noscript section.

6. Your finished code should resemble the example below. Some values like your conversion ID, label and currency may vary depending on your setup. Save your changes.

Using Your Google AdWords Promotional Code

Follow the steps below if you received an email from Google featuring an AdWords promotional code.

1. Visit https://www.bigcommerce.com/apps/google-shopping/ or follow the above instructions to connect the Google Shopping app to your BigCommerce store.

2. Follow the in-app instructions to set up your BigCommerce products on Google Shopping.

3. Create a Shopping campaign in AdWords to advertise your products.

4. Enter your promotional code within the Billing menu of AdWords or follow the directions here.

5. Make sure your AdWords account is linked to the app via the Account Linking menu.
