Flat-Rate Shipping

This shipping method provides one of the simplest ways to charge shipping. It allows you to establish a flat, static cost to charge your customers, either based on the order as a whole or by the number of items in the order.

You can offer as many flat rate methods as you want by duplicating them. They can also be used alongside or in conjunction with real-time quotes/rates This is useful for merchants who want to offer their own static cost for different delivery methods, like Standard Ground or Expedited 2-Day shipping.

1. Go to Settings › Shipping.

2. Click Edit next to the zone you want to add the method to.

3. Toggle on the switch to the right of Flat Rate.

4. In the pop-up labeled Flat Rate Options, choose your options:

• Display name — the name of the shipping charge shown to customers at checkout (e.g. Flat Rate Per Item)
• Shipping amount — enter the amount you want to charge next to the currency symbol
• Per item/per order — select from the drop-down
• *Handling Fee Type — select from the drop-down: Fixed or Percentage. This will only show up if handling fee is set to "I'll specify a handling fee for each of the shipping methods in this zone". See Handling Fees for more information.
• *Value — set the amount charged for a handling fee

5. Save your settings. Your new flat rate method will appear in the list of shipping charges under the display name you specified.

Flat Rate Examples

If we set Flat Rate to be $5.00 per order, then when the customer gets to checkout they should see the option Flat Rate with the price of $5.00.

Using a Flat Rate per item with the same price, it will calculate based on the quantity of items in their cart. With this setup, if the customer has 2 of the same item in the cart or two different items in the cart, they will see the Flat Rate option with a price of $10.

This shipping method allows your store to use a preformatted table to determine how much to charge an order for shipping. There are a few reasons why you might choose to use this method:

• You want to charge shipping as a percentage of the order total.
• You want complete control over how much to charge for each zone.

Enabling a Ship by Order Total Shipping Method

1. Go to Settings › Shipping.

2. Click Configure next to the zone you want to add the method to.

3. Toggle on the switch next to the Ship by method.

4. You will see a pop-up labeled Ship by Weight or Order Total Options.

• Display name — the name of the shipping charge shown to customers at checkout (e.g. Ship by Order Total)
• Charge shipping — select By order total
• Use discounted order subtotal (Recommended) — will use the discounted order subtotal for determining which shipping cost to apply
• Default shipping cost is used as the charge for anything that falls outside of the ranges you specify below. Keep this blank if you want orders that fall outside of your specified ranges to default to a different shipping method. This may be a flat rate, or a percentage of the order total — use the dropdown to choose between $ or % of order total.

Note: If the order total falls outside the shipping table ranges, customers will see the default shipping error alert message.

5. Fill out the first order total range and its associated cost. If you need additional ranges, click the plus (+) sign. To remove a row, click the X. When creating your table, here are a few things to keep in mind:

• The lower value is inclusive, and the higher value is exclusive (X ≥ order total < Y). So "From $0.00 up to $20.00" will cover orders that are $.01 or $19.99, but not an order that is $20.00.
• Any item that falls outside the ranges you specify here will be given the default shipping cost listed above. If none is specified, no Ship by Order Total cost will display at checkout.
• When you create a new range, it will automatically populate with the number from the end of your last range. These values are editable.
• Your last range must end in a number. If you need something like "$X amount and higher is $X shipping," you can enter the second value as an extremely high number. Alternatively, you can leave out this range and set a flat fee as your default shipping cost.

6. Click Submit to complete the setup.

This shipping method allows your store to use a preformatted table to determine how much to charge an order for shipping. There are a few reasons why you might choose to use this method:

• Your shipments are heavy, and fall outside the weight limits imposed by real time quote providers.
• You want complete control over how much to charge for each zone.

Your store's unit of weight measurement is configured in Physical Dimension Settings. Available options are pounds, ounces, kilograms, grams, and tonnes.

Enabling a Ship by Weight Shipping Method

1. Go to Settings › Shipping.

2. Click Configure next to the zone you want to add the method to.

3. Toggle on the switch next to the Ship by method.

4. You will see a pop-up labeled Ship by Weight or Order Total Options.

• Display name — the name of the shipping charge shown to customers at checkout (e.g. Ship by Weight)
• Charge shipping — select By weight
• Default shipping cost — the charge for anything that falls outside of the ranges you specify below. Keep this blank if you want orders that fall outside of your specified ranges to default to a different shipping method. This may be a flat rate, or a percentage of the order total — use the dropdown to choose between $ or % of order total.

5. Fill out the first weight range and its associated cost. If you need additional ranges, click the plus (+) sign. To remove a row, click the X. When creating your table, here are a few things to keep in mind:

• The lower value is inclusive, and the higher value is exclusive (X ≥ order weight < Y). So "From 1 lb up to 2 lbs" will cover orders that are 1 or 1.999 lbs, but not an order that is 2 lbs.
• Any item that falls outside the ranges you specify here will be given the default shipping cost listed above. If none is specified, no ship-by-weight cost will display at checkout.
• When you create a new range, it will automatically populate with the number from the end of your last range. These values are editable.
• Your last range must end in a number. If you need something like "10 lbs and higher is $30," you can enter the second value as an extremely high number (e.g. From 10 lbs up to 1000 lbs is $30). Alternatively, you can leave out this range and set a flat $30 as your default shipping cost.

6. Click Submit to complete the setup.

You can offer as many flat rate methods as you want by duplicating them. This is useful for merchants who want to offer their own static cost for different delivery methods, like "Standard Ground" or "Expedited 2-Day" shipping.

To duplicate a static shipping rate, click the arrow beside the Edit button, and select Duplicate.

Removing a flat rate shipping method

To remove a static shipping rate, click the X beside the Edit button, then Confirm.
