Which version of PayPal should I use?

PayPal is one of the largest payment processors in the world and offers many different payment solutions. BigCommerce has integrated with a few of these options to ensure there is one that fits your business.  Offering PayPal will make your store accessible to different types of shoppers, which is critical to your store's conversion rate.

A note to EU Merchants PayPal Payments Pro (Payflow Edition) and PayPal Payflow Pro do not support 3D Secure, which is required by the SCA requirement of PSD2. Please see a list of gateways that support 3D Secure.

PayPal Integrations

We've integrated with the following PayPal products:

PayPal Powered by Braintree

If you are based in the United States or in the 70+ countries it supports, we recommend PayPal powered by Braintree. This integration combines credit card processing with PayPal Express Checkout functionality in an interface that lets your customers pay with their PayPal account without ever leaving your storefront.

In addition to processing credit cards on your checkout page, PayPal powered by Braintree offers more advanced functionality than other PayPal integrations, such as:

BigCommerce also offers special pre-negotiated rates to qualified merchants.

PayPal Express Checkout

PayPal Express Checkout is a payment gateway offering from PayPal that features a quick setup process, the ability to pay with a PayPal account or credit card, and a PayPal button on the cart. Customers using this option will be transferred to PayPal to enter their payment information, then redirected to your checkout for completion. PayPal Express Checkout is available in any country where PayPal is accepted and supports PayPal Credit. It offers a 2.9% + $0.30 rate per US transaction with no monthly fees.

If you're using a different credit card processor, you may want to consider enabling PayPal Express Checkout as well. This will add a "Pay with PayPal" button on your checkout page and allow merchants to pay with their PayPal account. PayPal Express Checkout also supports multiple transactional currencies.

PayPal powered by Braintree includes built-in PayPal Express Checkout functionality. Do not turn PayPal Express Checkout on, or the two versions will conflict with one another.
