Changing Your Store's Domain

All BigCommerce stores are initially created with a .mybigcommerce.com domain, or website address. You can use the following instructions to update your store's domain to any one of the following:

  • A custom domain you have already registered (e.g. mydomain.com)
  • A subdomain of a domain you have already registered (e.g. shop.mydomain.com)
  • Another .mybigcommerce.com domain that is not already in use by another store

Putting your store on a custom domain can make your store look more professional and increase buyer confidence. Additionally, you might want to consider adding a dedicated SSL Certificate, which will keep your store's domain name the same, even on secure pages.

Possible Error Messages

If you receive the error, "The domain name you entered is already in use by another BigCommerce store," the domain you entered has either already been applied to your store or is in use by another BigCommerce store.

The domain change process can take a few minutes. To check whether the domain has already been applied to your store, return to your control panel, refresh the page, then click the View Store icon in the lower left of the control panel. When your store front pops up in a new tab, check the domain listed in the address bar.
